Wards 5 & 10 are vibrant, growing communities. My focus is on ensuring the Calgary Board of Education delivers equitable, quality education and acts as a transparent, accountable partner to parents and students.
The growth in Wards 5 & 10 demands immediate action on overcrowding. I will advocate relentlessly for expedited funding and construction of new learning spaces, including modular classrooms, to reduce class sizes and eliminate boundary issues.
The Board must be accountable to the community. I commit to clear communication, actively listening to parent concerns, and ensuring policies are focused on core educational results—Literacy, Numeracy, and student well-being.
Our students have increasingly complex learning needs. I will fight to secure provincial funding that keeps pace with inflation and ensures resources are allocated directly to the classroom to support specialized programs and mental health services.
Waqar Ahmed is a dedicated parent, long-time community advocate, and resident of northeast Calgary. With a professional background in community development and public service, Waqar understands the unique challenges and opportunities facing families in Wards 5 and 10, particularly related to rapid population growth and the diversity of our student body.
His commitment to the CBE is driven by a deep belief that every child deserves access to exceptional education, regardless of their background or neighbourhood. Waqar has spent years volunteering with local youth programs and working with various community organizations, giving him firsthand knowledge of the gaps between the needs of our schools and the resources currently available.
As your Trustee, Waqar will bring a collaborative, common-sense approach to the Board table, advocating for transparent financial management, ensuring operational efficiency, and championing policies that genuinely empower teachers and parents. He is running to be a proactive voice who won't shy away from challenging the status quo to secure a brighter future for the next generation.
